The BC Government has announced changes to the Agricultural Land Reserve to increase housing flexibility. The new rules allow for additional residential uses that will not require an application to the ALC to approve (but in many cases still require municipal approval).
“The additional residence can be used for anything from housing extended family to an agritourism accommodation, to housing for farm labour, to a rental property for supplemental income. There is no longer a requirement that additional residences must be used by the landowner or immediate family members.”
There has not been any change to the principal residence size limit of 500 square metres.
